I was not taking adequate Thyroxine in the beginning which is why my weight gain happened so quickly. My thyroid hormones have been fine for years now. It's other hormonal unbalances that cause weight gain now which is common for women my age.

If you are taking Thyroxine then I am not sure you can blame weight gain on that unless you are not taking enough

Someone else had mentioned how the calories on some programs are off. I'll have to look into a better program for calculating the data. What software are you using?

Can you explain this difference, please?

I am a non-insulin-dependent type 2 diabetic, so my control is based solely on diet, exercise & oral meds. While they're excellent for weight loss, they are even more effective for blood sugar control. I have also had half my thyroid removed, so there are weight issues.

I found your blog only recently, and your eggs benedict recipe is almost exactly as I make mine. And I HAVE occasionally used tomato as the base instead of any bread-type product; fried green tomatoes (using a low carb breading made of equal parts almond flour/wheat gluten/grated parmesan cheese) are an elegant base for the bacon/egg/sauce.

I will be haunting your airspace very frequently now, so if you bump into a old fat diabetic granny, it's only me. =)

Hi Katie,

From my own experience, I had gained weight just from having my thyroid ablated through radiation. I was originally prescribed Synthroid which did not seem very effective. After getting my doctor to prescribe Armour, I was able to get rid of some of the after effects like weight gain and tiredness. Because my thyroid was so overactive, I had to adjust my eating habits as I was able to eat almost anything and not gain weight before. My thyroid has lost all function so I am on a complete hormone replacement dose.

Although things got back to normal after using the glandular Armour thyroid pills, I started putting on weight a couple years ago as I approached the 40 year mark. Not sure if it was age related, but I do have to exercise a lot more now that I'm in my 40s than I did in my 30s. I also take a glandular thyroid supplement in the evening before bed as I don't think my prescribed dose of Armour is enough. Eating a low carb diet has definitely made it easier for me to maintain a healthy weight. I do have higher carb foods once it a while, but I try to limit them to only special occasions. If I veer off the low carb routine for more than a day, I usually start feeling really tired and bloated. I also keep high protein low carb snacks at my desk to curb my appetite during work and keep me from getting tempted by the snacks my coworkers share.

I also had thyroid issues, and had 1/2 of it removed. I am now on thyroxin to pick up where the other half left off. I am wondering, did they put you on a thyroid hormone replacement too? and if so, did you still gain weight?
I seem to have gained a lot of weight, and my eating/activity level has not changed. Im wondering if it is a result of the thyroid, or if it is just a change in my lifestyle-new desk job

if you could give me some advice/tips that would be really great!

Thanks so much,

Katie

The nougat candy may be possible using erythritol since it will carmelize when heated. I haven't experimented with that yet, but it's on my list of things to try.
